Charley Bejna came to Alaska on vacation, from Illinois, in 1991. He began mushing in 2008 and has been working with Iditarod veteran G.B. Jones to train and qualify for the Iditarod. He came in 17th in the 2011 Willow-Tug 300, 24th in the 2012 Knik 200, and 16th in the 2012 Northern Lights 300. Self-employed as president of Charley’s Landscaping Company, he lists his hobbies as working and spending time with his dogs.
